Week 7 Reflection

During week 7, we learned about empathy map and user journey map.  An empathy map is a collaborative visualization used to articulate what we know about a particular type of user. Empathy map is created so that we can understand the user and later aid us in decision making. Traditional empathy maps are have 4 quadrants; Says, Thinks, Does, and Feels and user is in the middle of the map. The Thinks quadrant captures what the user is thinking throughout the experience. The Does quadrant encloses the actions the user takes. The Says quadrant contains what the user says out loud in an interview or some other usability study. The Feels quadrant is the user’s emotional state, often represented as an adjective plus a short sentence for context.

We later find a partner to create empathy map on student experience of learning SSE3307 online.

A journey map is a visualization of the process that a person goes through in order to accomplish a goal.

Benefits of Journey Mapping

-Zoom out and evaluate from different perspectives

-Understand the context

-Identify moments of opportunity and intervention

-Co-create new solutions

-Create a common understanding

My reflection: Empathize stage is very important in design thinking as we understand the users and avoid making assumption. Then we can find what our user feelings, problems and needs so that we can solve or fulfill it later.
